The Wandering Homesteader was an idea born long ago while I was living in the Midwest daydreaming about cowboys and the wild west! I cut my teeth on John Wayne movies and begged my parents to take me to any Midwest rodeo I could find so I could sit and watch in awe of the men and women of the West. I started asking for a horse by the time I was two but my grain farming parents didn't want to pay for one, nor did they think I was overly serious about wanting a horse. The rule always was, when you grow up and move out, you can buy your own horse.

The summer I turned 19, I packed up my things and headed to Stephenville, Texas for my sophomore year in college. A month and a half later, I purchased my first horse, Earl, and the rest is history or so they say. I began to grow in my horsemanship skills at the same I was growing a budding faith.

While at Tarleton majoring in Agriculture Communications, I developed a love for photography and writing. I am much better at one than the other... I'll let you take your pick at which I'm better at ;) This love gave me a desire to share what God has taught me with the world. I wasn't sure how that would be, but at first, I was convinced it would be through a border to border ride across the country on horseback.

Mustangs on a Mission was a project I spent almost three years and a lot of blood, sweat, and tears on. Though there were many signs that God had closed the door on riding horses across the country, I chose to forge ahead.

This led me on a tumultuous and humbling journey that led me to meeting some of the most influential people in my life.

Though we did not make it border to border, the lessons I learned helped me to grow as a person and led me to jobs working for two different horse trainers which led me to a move across the country (again), this time to Arizona. I am now working for a bookkeeping firm where I am combining communications skills with numbers to help small business owners reach their maximum success.

My goal with The Wandering Homesteader is to connect with you, share laughs with you, tears with you, recipes with you, and ideas to keep us trucking through life. My favorite part of this blog is the Influential Women section. In this section I am going to share with you some of my favorite women of the West! Women who embody homesteading and love and can do a few things with some horses too. If you have a lady in your life who you think would be a good fit, please email me her name so she can be featured too!

I wouldn't be here without Jesus and I want you to experience His life giving love and  forgiveness too.

I would love for you to click sign up in the middle, right of the home page and join my email list so you can keep up with all the goodness to come! Saddle up friends and join me on this journey!
